I'm a Perth marriage celebrant and I genuinely love what I do

After all these years, I still feel incredibly lucky that my “job” is being part of one of the biggest, happiest and most exciting days in a couple’s life.

​But being a celebrant is about so much more than standing up and saying a few words on your wedding day. It’s about getting to know you, understanding what matters to you, taking care of the details, keeping everything on track and making sure that when your big day arrives, you can relax and enjoy every minute of it. That’s where I come in!

Before stepping into the wedding world

I’ve been a school and education leader, published author, stage director, event coordinator and performer. I’ve spent years speaking to audiences, coordinating people and events, managing the unexpected and making sure everything comes together when it matters. ​And I’ve brought all of that experience into being a celebrant.

 

When I became a celebrant everything clicked!

​I’m organised. I’m responsive. I know what needs to happen and when it needs to happen. I’ll guide you through the legal paperwork, help you create a ceremony that actually sounds like you, answer the questions you didn’t even know you needed to ask, and be the calm person in the room when things don’t quite go to plan. Because they occasionally don’t! My job is to make getting married feel easy.

But you’ll get to know the real me too

I’m a wife to Mike, mum to Kate and Tom, and nanny to Ted, Jack and Indah. I’ve lived in our Federation home in Mount Lawley for more than 40 years, and yes, our dog Harry is very much part of the family too.​ I love music, travelling, a glass of bubbles, ridiculously long lunches with family and friends, and sitting on the beach with a good book.

I still sing with my trio, Bling, so performing in front of people is definitely not something that scares me!

​And perhaps that’s one of the reasons I love ceremonies so much. I know how to stand in front of a room full of people and hold their attention, but I also know that your ceremony isn't a performance about me. It's about you. Everyone is there, cheering you on!

Your ceremony shouldn't be the boring bit

After officiating more than 1,000 weddings, I know what makes a ceremony work, and what makes people switch off. You don't need a  ceremony filled with words that could belong to anyone. You need someone who will listen to your story, understand your personalities and create a ceremony that feels like you. Something heartfelt without being over-the-top. Something relaxed without feeling under-prepared. Something meaningful, with a little personality and maybe a laugh or two.
