Cue the Music: Making Your Wedding Ceremony Sound Like You"

Choosing your wedding ceremony songs is one of the most fun parts of wedding planning - it sets the vibe and gives your day that emotional zing! Think about the mood you want: romantic, joyful, relaxed, a total tearjerker? It doesn’t have to be traditional. If you want to walk in to Fleetwood Mac or exit to a Taylor Swift banger, I say go for it. This is your moment! I’m always happy to offer suggestions if you’re stuck or need help choosing tunes that match the energy of your ceremony.
When picking songs, it can help to think of your ceremony in three mini acts: the arrival, the “we do,” and the celebration. Your aisle song is usually the one that gets the tears (or happy goosebumps) flowing, so choose something that really speaks to your relationship.
The signing songs are a great chance to sneak in a couple of favourites that might not suit the big walk-in moment but still make your heart flutter.
And your exit song? That’s your confetti moment, whether you’ve got actual confetti or not, so pick something upbeat and joyful that screams, “We did it!”
Don’t stress if you and your partner have very different music tastes (we’ve all been there). You can mix it up! Maybe one of you chooses the aisle song and the other picks the exit tune. Or you could go with an instrumental version of a favourite track if the lyrics feel a bit too intense (or not quite grandma-friendly). And remember, there are no hard rules, if silence feels right for a certain moment, that’s totally okay too.
Once you’ve picked your songs, I recommend sending them through to your celebrant (hi, that’s me!) and your music person, whether it's a friend with a playlist, a live musician, or a DJ. I’ll coordinate with them to make sure everything flows perfectly on the day, so you don’t have to worry about timings, awkward gaps, or someone pressing play at the wrong moment. You just get to enjoy the music that tells your love story, one beautiful song at a time.
