Let's get one thing straight...
Your wedding ceremony doesn't have to be stiff, formal or feel like everyone is waiting for the bar to open. In fact, some of the best wedding ceremonies in Australia are the ones filled with personality, laughter and a few unexpected moments.
As a Perth marriage celebrant, I've seen couples create ceremonies that are heartfelt, hilarious and completely unforgettable, all while still keeping the important parts meaningful. If you're looking for fun wedding ceremony ideas that your guests haven't seen a hundred times before, here are ten of my favourites.

1. Have a Ring Warming Ceremony
Before your ceremony begins, pass your wedding rings around your closest family and friends.
As each person holds the rings, they silently wish you well, and fill them with love before they're exchanged. By the time those rings reach you, they've already been held by the people who matter most. It's simple, emotional and incredibly special.
(Just make sure someone trustworthy is in charge of getting them back to the front!)
2. Surprise Everyone by Singing Your Way Down the Aisle
Who says you have to quietly walk down the aisle?
If music is your thing, why not sing your favourite song as you walk towards your partner? Yes, people actually do this. It's unexpected, personal and creates one of those unforgettable "Did that really just happen?" moments.
And if singing solo isn't your thing...walk down the aisle together while everyone joins in.
3. Let Your Dog Be the Ring Bearer
If your dog is basically your first child...let them be part of the ceremony.
A flower collar. A little bow tie. A sign around their neck. Instant crowd favourite. Even if they don't quite follow the plan, they'll probably steal the show anyway.
4. Invite Your Guests to Make a Promise Too
Marriage isn't just about the two of you.
Your favourite people are part of your story too. Ask your celebrant to include a guest promise, where family and friends agree to support your marriage, cheer you on and occasionally remind you whose turn it is to apologise. It's a lovely way to include everyone without making them stand up and give speeches.
5. Write Secret Vows
Instead of reading your vows beforehand, keep them a surprise.
You'll hear each other's promises for the very first time during the ceremony. The reactions are genuine. The emotions are real. And yes... someone usually cries.
6. Tell Your Love Story Properly
Please don't skip this bit.
Your guests know you. What they often don't know is how you became you together.
The funny first date. The terrible pickup line. The long-distance relationship. The proposal that almost didn't happen. A personalised ceremony brings your story to life, giving everyone those "I didn't know that!" moments that make a wedding memorable.

7. Include a Shot, Toast or Espresso
Not everyone wants a unity candle.
Some couples celebrate with tequila.Others clink champagne. I've even seen couples share an espresso because coffee was how their relationship began. If it means something to you, include it.
Traditions are wonderful—but making your own is even better.
8. Let Your Kids Join In
If you're blending families or already have children together, make them part of the ceremony.
They could:
Walk down the aisle
Help with the rings
Read a short poem
Stand beside you
Receive a special promise from both of you
It's a beautiful reminder that your wedding isn't just joining two people.
It's bringing a family together.
9. Walk Back Down the Aisle Like You Mean It
You've just got married. Don't politely stroll back down the aisle. Celebrate! Dance.
High-five your guests.Wave your bouquet around. Do a little shimmy. Start the party before you've even reached the end of the aisle. Your photographer will absolutely love these photos.
10. Choose a Celebrant Who Gets You
Okay, this one's less of an idea and more of a secret ingredient.
The best wedding ceremonies don't happen because someone copied a Pinterest board.
They happen because the couple found a marriage celebrant who understood them.
Someone who knew when to make people laugh. When to pause. When to keep things light.
And when to let a moment speak for itself. Whether your ceremony lasts 30 minutes or 10 minutes, the right celebrant can help turn it into the most memorable part of your wedding day.
Your Wedding. Your Rules.
One of the best things about choosing a marriage celebrant is that your ceremony doesn't have to follow a script that's been used a hundred times before.
Want to laugh? Do it.
Want to cry? Go for it.
Want to include your nan, your favourite song or a tequila shot? Let's make it happen.
Because years from now, no one will remember the exact timeline of your day.
They'll remember the ceremony that felt completely, wonderfully you.
